The Big Event indeed!

Usually, I don’t make a fuss with online shopping, mainly because I get depressed with international shipping costs.  Not to mention, the hounds that always overprice taxes here (*customs ehem*), by the time I get my package, it’s almost twice the price than the one I originally intended to pay for.

But it’s different for ShopBop.

ShopBop offers free international shipping!  Purchase $100+ and you get free international shipping.  And they carry the best brands everrrr.  Jeffrey Campbell.  Marc by Marc Jacobs.  Tory Burch.  Diane von Furstenberg.  Alexander Wang (boy wonder!).  Rebecca Minkoff.  Et cetera.  Et cetera.  Et cetera.

And if things couldn’t get better, they come up with this promo to jive with the infamous Black Friday sale.

I know right.  I’m headed there too riiiight noooow.

Thanks to Bryanboy for the heads up.

Kay Ganda? Maybe they meant Most Dangerous

The killing of 57 civilians and media people last year made the Philippines “the most dangerous place in the world for journalists,” said Frank La Rue, UN special rapporteur on the promotion and protection of the right to freedom of opinion and expression.  (Source:  Philippine Daily Inquirer)

I remember a foreigner saying the Philippines has one of the freest press in the world.  I guess not anymore.

Please do not forget the people who were murdered a year ago.  Do not forget them, their stories, their families.  Too many people have forgotten already.  Please do not be one of them.

So beautiful? Are you kidding me?

The Aquino government (no, not that, the recent one) is yet again facing criticism for its newest tourism campaign.  The new administration appears to be itching to replace everything the Arroyo administration cooked up during its reign.  So from this:

To this:

Really?  Are you kidding me?  “Ang ganda”?  That’s the best your hand-picked crew can come up with?

According to PNoy’s crew, this will still be up for discussion and focus group testing before its public release in January.

I mean, I get that it’s aiming to highlight the goodness of Filipinos.  I get that the administration wants to make the Filipinos known for their good values.  I get all that shit.

But do they also get the similarity between “Pilipinas” and “Filipinas”, the latter usually mistaken for mail-order brides?  Don’t they fear that the country will be known for pretty ladies instead of pretty people?

It’s just so open and raw and so vulnerable to be easily lost in translation.  It’s almost not okay.

And I have this feeling that the current administration  just wants nothing to do with the previous one.  It seems to be desperate to erase every single trace that the Arroyo administration “was here.”  But whether they like it or not, that administration’s tourism slogan leaves no room for misinterpretation.

And it certainly did not and will not potentially upset the Polish government.

Let’s see how PNoy can turn this around.  He may be a flop when it comes to first impressions, but he tends to be quite graceful at recovery.

Now this is an interchange

The Judge Harry Pregerson Interchange is situated in Los Angeles, CA, and is one of the most complicated interchanges in the country. It permits entry and exit in all directions between the I-105 and the I-110. It’s a stack interchange with layers of bridges making a complicated network of roads allowing smooth flow of traffic though both the interstate highways. This interchange was opened in 1993. It is a 4 level interchange with a restricted access lane that can be used by high-occupancy vehicles.  (Source:  http://oddee.com/)

FYI, I don’t think this is Metro Gwapo.  Hahahahaha.  Just saying. :)

Most stressful cab ride of 2010

The cab driver preached the word of the Lord from Roxas Boulevard to Makati Avenue.

Please.  Do not call me spiritually empty because I am so not.  Just because I refused to listen to your words doesn’t mean I’m spiritually empty.

Besides, a cab is not the place to preach the word of God.  Or whatever words you want to quote.

And if you plan to quote the Bible, the least you can do is make sure it’s the right one.

That’s all.
