The right reasons

25

If you’re following me on Instagram (which you should by the way, I can be pretty stellar on a good day), you’ll know that my race kit arrived last week.  It’s a 21km run, or a half Mary as running enthusiasts would call it, and it’s on October 6.

Guys, it’s September.  And I am severely out of shape.

I don’t know what came over me and I signed up for something like that.  I can’t even imagine getting past 15km.  But it’s there and I told myself 2013 will not pass without me completing a good half Mary.

Although I’ve been doing yoga at home, I can’t really say that I am in shape.  My stats this afternoon at the gym were abysmal.

I am so fucking out of shape.

So let’s change that shall we?  I clocked in a good 5.4km today at the treadmill, though at a disappointing 33:28.  But I still have a narrow gap to improve on that one.

Four weeks to kick ass.  Tomorrow, I’m hitting CFMNL.  I’ve had that 5-day pass for so long, might as well use it now.

I wonder how spent I’ll be come Tuesday.  To be honest, I’m quite excited. :)

And I better start eating better too.  I am fucking heavy.

Enough cursing for the day.  Time for some stretches.  Oh Lord, my thighs are killing me.

Oh, be mine, apartment.

I believe Freshome gave it to me good again.

The Scandinavian design genius Alvhem Makleri & Interior has done it again, tastefully putting together chic functionality in this small apartment in Gothenburg.

Charming-Swedish-Apartment

You would think that the amount of white space in this apartment would render it cold and unbecoming, but there’s a certain hint of home to it.

Simple-Design-Line

The overall look reminds me of a start up couple, two people finding the perfect balance in each other, as it throws the mix of urban chic and nostalgia.

Kitchen4

I love that it opens to a kitchen and a simple foyer.  I mean, you should see the kitchen.  I mean, HAVE YOU SEEN THE KITCHEN!?  Hahaha.  I’ve always wanted a big one, but this compact cube is just too adorable to pass up.

The bedroom and the bathroom also speaks of functionality.  I am of course hesitant given the limited closet space.  I think I might need a storage closet somewhere just to stash my things.

I certainly hope each apartment comes with a view because this is one cozy reading nook.

Ever since I’ve moved out, I’ve been missing my personal space a lot.  So visiting Freshome for these design ideas keeps my heart warm at night.

Did you or did you just fall in love with this apartment too? :)

REVIEW: South of the Border, West of the Sun

As previously mentioned, I had the opportunity to encounter for the first time the work of Haruki Murakami.  A friend a while back already suggested that I start reading his work, but for some reason I never really got around it.  It wasn’t until I saw this book’s cover did I muster enough energy to purchase the book and immerse myself in it.

Talk about judging a book by its cover eh?  Hahaha.

If you haven’t read this book and are planning to, stop reading this now.  Continue reading

Monsoon survivor!

I have been meaning to blog about my emotional instability (chos) but the past days I’ve only been stuck in water.  Literally.

Flood

It’s storm season again in the Philippines, and this has to be the worst flooding our home has ever experienced.  Actually, this is just knee deep.  Some time within the day, it even reached up to my thighs.

I wonder though if it was the rain or the width of my legs that made the water rise.  Eureka! Hahaha.

This is our first regular day for the week, the first day we’re actually experiencing power.  Since Monday till about 4 hours ago, we’ve been living in black and white, and I’ve had much to ponder, not to mention finished four books in a row.  I’m waiting for the jubilant feeling to die down a bit (LIGHT!  THERE’S LIGHT!) just so I can be in the right state of mind to share with you my insights.

Not that you’re eager to hear me moping, but you get what I mean.

The books that I finished in the 80 hour non-powered days were:

  • An Abundance of Katherines by John Green
  • Paper Towns by John Green
  • The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
  • South of the Border, West of the Sun by Haruki Murakami

It’s like I saved the best for last.

For now, please continue praying for the ones who are yet to regain power and are still flooded here in the Philippines.  I can tell this is the first of many, so vigilance is key.

But then again there’s nothing unusual here.  After all, the Filipino spirit is unsinkable.

Chos.
