Writer’s Block: That’s a wrap!

Well, the most traditional thing we’ve always done is to gather with my father’s side of the family on Christmas, and before New Year’s, the mother’s side.

For the recipes, my grandmother would always make these sticky rice cakes from a big big big wok (like about 40" in diameter) burning over coal and just slow cooking the rice cake till the wee hours of the morning.  The men in the family take turns in mixing the delicacy and it has become a tradition to have suitors and/or boyfriend/s do the stirring as part of the initiation.

And may I just point out that Dy has been part of that tradition for about 3 years now.  Word.

Writer’s Block: You’re a mean one, Mr. Grinch!

I just have to watch — HAVE TO WATCH — Love Actually.  That Joni Mitchell bit just breaks my heart every time.  I don’t know why I choose to feel that way during the holidays, but you have to admit, the carol singers, the "All I Want For Christmas" and the best part of the day makes it so worth it to watch.

Other must-see:

  • Home Alone
  • FRIENDS reruns
  • The Holiday
  • The Bucket List

Writer’s Block: Honesty is such a lonely word

Honesty is such a vague word.  Oftentimes, it’s attributed to saying everything.  I think the better case is, you don’t have to share everything with your partner but it is important that what you share is true.

Writer’s Block: Take this job and shove it …

YES and I didn’t regret it at all. I had to work as an administrative assistant for an IT company for a few months. Later on, I noticed that the "supervisor" kept giving me orders even if it’s not part of my job description, like picking up the dry cleaning, making coffee, doing the grocery. I mean, are those administrative functions!? I don’t think so. Then one day, she asked me to pick up the dry cleaning (for the NTH time!) in the middle of the day during rush hour traffic and demanded that I should be back in time for the early evening meeting (since I’m the one taking the minutes). Didn’t pick up the dry cleaning, didn’t return, and I flushed the claim receipt in the toilet bowl. Good thing, I was friends with the accountant so I still got my back pay without even going back to the office.
