Lolli Puff’d Away!

I know I’ve been posting a lot of clothes, but since most of you, I’m sure, have been prepping for your summer body, it’s now the time to start seeing those results!

Lolli Puff came out with its second collection this weekend, and I must admit, I am liking what I am seeing. This collection appeals to me a lot because of the formal details in the items. Besides, with the weight gain, I can easily slip into these. :)

The 2012 Oscars Fashion IMO

Okay, so I needed an extra day to process the variety of dresses that sashayed down the red carpet at the 84th Academy Awards over the weekend. I am psyched at the fantastic polarities — Meryl Streep finally winning again after 17 nominations, silent film The Artist bagging Best Direction, Best Actor and Best Picture — but mostly, I am very happy with the differences in dresses!

I took a day to group them into three: YAY for the ones that hit it out of the ball park, NAY for the ones that just failed on the spot, FENCE for the ones I neither hate nor like. I’m not really on good authority to judge any, but come on. This is one of the joys of being a spectator! All of a sudden, you become a fashion guru and start telling yourself “No that doesn’t suit her” or “That is so not flattering for her body type” or “I KNEW she’s look good on marbley yellow!”

Here are the YAYs:

This Tom Ford piece made Gwyneth Paltrow look like a statuette herself! Absolutely loved the elegance and simplicity.

The perfect picture of the girl-next-door, Cameron Diaz in this Gucci dress just floated. The asymmetrical ruffling and the semi-athletic bodice fit her personality well. Rachel Zoe, fantastic styling!

Penelope Cruz always manages to break out in the dreamiest dresses, now in Armani Prive. I think most girls would imagine wearing something like this on a big ball night.

Tadashi Shoji knew exactly how to emphasize Octavia Spencer’s figure and beauty. She looked like a winner right off the bat. It’s not a wonder she ended up winning the ‘hottest man in the room’.

I remember Rooney Mara as Mark Zuckerberg’s girlfriend in The Social Network, but since she became The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, her style just grew exponentially. She transformed to this fashion forward femme, this time in Givenchy, just like how Anne Hathaway become the Chanel girl after The Devil Wears Prada.

Viola Davis stepped out for the first time in her natural hair donning two of my favorites: Vera Wang and the color green.

I love love love love love polka dots! So when Natalie Portman showed off this micro dotted Vintage Christian Dior, I just died. And it’s red! Talk about power color! And did she seriously gave birth?! Super fan mode on.

Oh Mila Jovovich. I just want to bite your shoulder and lick your wounds clean. Hahahaha. She’s so hot here, in Elie Saab Couture. Ladies, it is so hard to get it wrong with Elie Saab. I think most of my dream dresses are from this designer!

Tina Fey looked such a classic cool mom in Carolina Herrera.

Michelle Williams, here in Louis Vuitton, chose such a daring color! I don’t know if Pantone will consider this as tangerine tango, but damn! Orange looks amazing here. This woman really knows how to dress in color. Remember her yellow dress a few years back? That can easily be the next timeless piece.

Filipino designer Monique Lhuillier made Judy Greer look like she’s dripping in everything delicious and shiny. This column dress is so modern and amazing! Instantly slimming too. :)

And of course, my absolute favorite of the night…

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli. The color. The hair. The lip. The jewelry. That fucking amazing bow. Ah. She’s so gorgeous. This funny lady just knows how to eat fashion for breakfast. AH. MAZE. BALLS.

So yeah. Those are my favorite Oscar dresses. What are yours? :)

And here come the nays. I have good reason why I didn’t like them. I’ll do my best to recall them all.

Arianne Phillips’ glasses got in the way. And her poor posture too. I normally like exaggerated pinks, but this one just kinda threw me off.

Berenice Bejo looked too covered up here. Like old lady covered up. It made her age. And to think I love the color.

The face to bang ratio is not appreciated on Ellie Kemper. Also, her dress looked too sparkly. It looks like it’s for more of a no-more-sun event.

Ah Glenn Close. I absolutely love Zac Posen, but the dress just looks forced on you.

Jessica Chastain is eternally adorable, but the details on this Alexander McQueen dress ate her alive.

Kate Mara’s dress looked unfinished, with that bit hanging by the shoulder. Also, the halloween bride look isn’t really doing anything for her. Lift your chin, dear. You have such a pretty face.

Leila Hatami… I have no words.

There’s just something off in Melissa Leo’s Reem Acra dress. Proportion maybe? To me, the top part appears ill fitted, and the slit? Not that flattering. What are we supposed to say? Nice calves?

If Nancy O’Dell was invited to the inauguration of our Philippine president this year, this yellow frock would have been the best thing to wear. To bright sweetie. Check out how Michelle William’s did it. That’s a very good benchmark for yellows.

Penelope Ann Miller in Badgely Mischka. I don’t know why I didn’t like this on her. Probably because it just screams too much? Or maybe it was too tight on the neck, no wonder it looked like that? I don’t know. It was off-putting for me.

Rose Byrne is normally so pretty and polished and sleek, but here she just looked like a shiny rice cake. Loosen that dress!

And you, dear Shailene Woodley! This is not a pajama party! You look like you’re ready for bed in this dress!

And last but not the least…

Excuse me, Sherri Shepherd, but IS THAT YOUR BRA?!

All things said are my personal opinion. These styles just did not jive with my taste. Sorry, ladies. Next year, maybe?

Alberta Ferretti RTW Fall/Winter 2012

I know lately I’ve been posting a lot of fall looks. I guess it’s mostly because I love the fall collection of most designers, admittedly because of the neutrals that just strut down the runway. I absolutely love the blacks, and grays, and browns, and the sudden pop of wine red. I love fall/winter. :)

However, it comes as a surprise when Alberta Ferretti came out with almost an entirely black collection. Hmmm. There were a couple pops of color, but still the collection is predominantly black.

Not that I’m complaining. The past season was all about brights and prints and color, so the blacks were definitely a good eye rest. Besides, the collection in itself is so sleek. Some of it even reminds me of a modern day Ariel. The collection is rich, luscious and almost squashes the penis-envy of women. After all, Alberta Ferretti did dress up a handsome woman.

These next pieces reminded me of The Matrix. These would look so good on Monica Belucci.

Here are the pops of color I was telling you about. I believe I’m missing a color, but hey, who wouldn’t love colored sheers?

The scaly details of these pieces are so amazing. I cannot even imagine the work that went into making them. It’s so flirty, formal and at the same time, Disney-like (notice the Ariel reference bwahahaha).
