MUSIC MONDAY: When We Were Young by Adele

And so I’m back.  It’s been a while.  A really long while.

I’m pretty sure I am not the only one that thought of the brilliance of Adele’s new album.  I must have read her iD interview a thousand times, and I still can’t get over how optimistic 25 sounds like.  I’m so elated that we have new music to enjoy.

I was lucky enough to be online in YouTube when they released the live recording of When We Were Young.  At that very moment, I was in the middle of planning one of my life’s biggest events and the lyrics just rang true to me.  Everything from that point forward was a change and there was no stopping it.

From time to time, I am still overwhelmed.  I had no idea how big of a shift this would be until I was already in it.  A part of me feels like I’ve overestimated my confidence in surviving this change, but another part feels that this change is the most natural of all.

It took me a while to write again because I had to yet again find my balance, and I’m glad to report that I am somewhat near it.  I’m not as stable as I had hoped to be, but I am absolutely overjoyed that I am not alone in this journey.  And because I am rhyming again.  Hah.

I heard this song while I was in the shower the other day, and took it as a sign.  It just might be time to start writing again.

MUSIC MONDAY: Shiver by Natalie Imbruglia

Okay, so technically it’s not Monday and dating this post to become a Monday is cheating.  But the entire week has just been all about enduring traffic for an international convention being held in Manila, I completely forgot to schedule this post to happen.  So forgive me?  :D

I heard this song while I was showering.  Hahahaha.  I know TMI right?  But because of the El Niño, we’ve been enduring rotational water shortage, and I’ve been prudently bathing.  Just covering the basics.  No conditioning, and no weekly coffee scrubs.  Just plain being clean.

When this song came on, the water pressure started to improve and it just lifted my spirits all together.

Me in the shower that day

Me in the shower that day

And it’s so funny because I associated a completely unrelated song to the joy of having refreshing water at 5 in the morning.

Also, it’s Natalie Imbruglia.

Given that this is a very old song, I think this could qualify as a Throwback Thursday post too, yeah? :)

Enjoy.  <3

MUSIC MONDAY: No One’s Gonna Love You by Band of Horses

I’ve heard this song way too many times:  movie soundtrack, coming-of-age television shows, and even from other friends’ playlists.  With Shondaland churning out crappy music week after week (if you watch Grey’s Anatomy, you know what I mean), I suddenly had a strong yearning for meaningful music.

What is meaningful actually?  Do you have to be able to relate to the lyrics for it to be meaningful?  Does it have to latch on to a memory, a single moment in time?  Did the writer have to be in a suspended pensive state when he/she wrote the music and lyrics?  Do the lyrics have to sound like a conversation you cannot make happen?  Will it have to reflect your subconscious, a repressed memory of sorts?  How does a song become meaningful?

I’m not really sure myself, but maybe it’s all of those things combined.  But this song… these lyrics though…

And while I am absolutely enthralled by the original, their acoustic performance is just as haunting.

It also made me think, how can I get that effect in the background for my wedding?

I am a mess of sorts.

Have a great week ahead, folks.

MUSIC MONDAY: Hello by Adele

By the time you guys get to read this, I’m pretty sure Adele would have smashed the record for most number of views in 24 hours because this new single is not only most awaited, it is also as raw as she is.

THE QUEEN IS BACK TO SLAY SLAY SLAY.

20151026 Adele Hello

When she first started singing, I was just transported to when I first heard her, singing Bonnie Rait’s I Can’t Make You Love Me.

And Chasing Pavements.

And Someone Like You at the Brit Awards.

It’s just like what James Corden said:  “If you ever had your heart broken, you’re about to remember it now.”

While I love heartbroken Adele, I am even more excited with mature Adele.  And all the rest of the songs that lead up to this line:

At least I can say that I tried
To tell you I’m sorry for breaking your heart
But it don’t matter
It clearly doesn’t tear you apart anymore

25 looks really good.  I can’t wait.

MUSIC MONDAY: My Heart Is Open by Maroon 5 feat. Gwen Stefani

It’s been a while since I last admired a duet.  The last time I was this enthralled by a duet was Broken Strings.

20151019 My Heart is Open

The song also came at a time when I was having a difficult time dealing with the separation.  It has been over two years since Le Beau and I got back together, and even though we rock this whole long distance thing — I actually believe we’re the perfect model, modesty aside — there are still days when every single aspect of my individuality is vividly aware of how far he is from me.

It is also of no help that the weather is gloomy and cool, and the bed can only be so warm.  My bed needs another person on it.

I don’t need time to find another lover but I want you

Ah, the final stretch.  76 days to go.
