Fare thee well

My dear readers, I believe my own personal form of tragedy struck last Saturday.

A classmate from grad school turned out to be one of those few people who fancy basically the same literary options as I do.  He kept mentioning this book that I just must read.  He insisted so much that he was willing to part with his copy temporarily.

I decided to end my curiosity last Saturday when I headed over to National Bookstore Mall of Asia on my way home to Las Piñas.  I walked in, two-strapping my backpack, my phone and wallet in one hand, a bag of cotton buds for my mother in the other.

I walked to Customer Service and had them look for that book.  Tea Obreht’s The Tiger’s Wife.  Personnel immediately radioed another staffer to look for a copy around the store.  In an effort to not look like a prick, I wandered around fiction and literary winners section for another book to add to my list.

I think I need to reread Jane Austen’s something.  Oooh, George Orwell.  I don’t get the buzz for Jessica Zafra.  IT’S MY FAVORITE BOOK!  Yay for Arlene Chai!  I wonder if they have Fight Club here…

Random thoughts kept spilling in and out of my head, and I didn’t notice the time.  The service personnel gave me The Tiger’s Wife and as I grabbed a copy of Persuasion, I noticed I only had my phone in my hand.  No wallet.

The next 40 minutes consisted of me peering over CCTV footage, filing complaints in Uniqlo, Forever21, Zara and National Bookstore, but as time droned by I had to accept the inevitable:  my wallet is never coming back to me.

I had to return the books I had in my hand.  It was the last copy of The Tiger’s Wife.  My father was waiting for me outside; at least I didn’t have to worry about my ride home.  And I was drowning in an overwhelming sense of calmness.

That sense has finally subsided when I woke up to get to work this morning.

Farewell, my safari printed Liz Claiborne wallet.  I know I’ve constantly complained about replacing you, but really you were precious.  You housed my photos, government IDs and cash and credit cards.  You housed my identity.  Never did I think that I’d lose you in a sea of books.  But then, that’s really the best way to lose any material possession.  However far away, I know for a fact that you will always be with me.

Because no bitch or whore would ever dare to steal my name.  If they know what’s good for them.

I miss you already. </3

I cannot delay these anymore!

At the risk of sounding shallow, I am about to post all the things that are essential to my wardrobe and whims.  Hahahaha.

But really, these are the things that I have constantly postponed getting because I keep telling myself, they won’t run out, or that they’re always there.  Now that I have school and I actually feel the need to be constantly mobile, I have to remind myself that I lack the following:

I didn’t really think I would need additional storage so soon!  It was a couple of weeks ago when my external hard drive started flashing red.  I only have about 20G of space left in the 500G baby, so yeah, I need space and I need it soon.

Some of you might think a good pair of denim shorts is not essential but it is.  Ask my family.  They would know.  BWAHAHAHA.

Sage Ballet Flats by Ichigo Shoes

Again, let me just reiterate:  one can never have too many shoes, particularly flats.  Now that I am constantly everywhere, trying to accomplish a smoother work-study-life balance, I need good comfortable shoes to keep my feet light and quick.  I already got my running shoes, so yeah, these commuter babies are the next ones I need.

And last, but certainly not the least,

Oxford Laptop Bag by Beabi

I currently use the gigantic laptop issued to me at work.  Because I am so behind in documentation, I take it wherever I go, and it’s becoming really hard to lag around a Havaianas canvas tote bag.  I mean, if I have that bag, I shouldn’t really expect to be taken seriously.  I need something that looks official and holds all my shit together.  Coz I have so much shit I don’t know where to place.

So there.  A blog especially dedicated to the list I have been avoiding for the longest time.  Now where’s that long overdue bonus?!

Turning to Adidas

I am a Nike whore.  Really.  I don’t remember ever buying a pair of running shoes from anywhere else but Nike.  Ever since I started running, it has always been Nike.

My mother and I shopped the entire weekend.  Because of the big sale in the south, I just had to save a little on running shoes.  After all, it is a period of austerity, at least for me.  With upcoming school and paying for it myself, I want to save what I can, so I was counting on the sale to save a few thousands.

True enough, the sale was worth it.  The downside?  Nike ran out of everything under women’s running.  My heart stopped.  I immediately called Dylan in a panic, and he was quick to quip, “Get an Adidas.”

For me, the statement sounded like, “YEAH I SAID IT.”  But I had no other choice.  My two runners are just in a sorry state.  I don’t have that much cash on me.  I need to start training for a long distance run for early next year.  I need those shoes.

So I went over to Adidas and started browsing.  To be fair, the selection looks good.  I wasn’t able to take photos because the place was just chaotic.  Then I noticed something:  women’s running have like three designs left.  I looked at the soles of each design and the two had a dreadful statement taped to it:  LAST PAIR.

I turned over the funkiest looking one.  And it was marked with this:  6.5 (1), 7(2)(1), 9(1).  I know those numbers.  Those are sizes and available stocks.  I am a 7.  I have to get that 7.

And so I did.  Funky yes?

So tomorrow (if not later), I’ll let you know how it feels running in these.  Adidas is endorsed by Katy Perry, and I really like her.  So she can’t be that wrong right?

It still feels weird seeing stripes.

Oh by the way, I got this for 10% off and because I shopped so much, I got an additional 5% rebate.  Sale shopping is nice.
