Jaw-dropping street art

Here’s a fantastic way to wake up in the morning!

Edgar Mueller is an artist who has been designing city sidewalks and transforming them into amazing works of art.  And it’s not just simple art.  It’s 3D art.  He copies these breaktaking scenes and paints them on sidewalks, bringing the scenery to the ordinary pedestrian.

I know right!  Sheer genius.  It’s absolutely sheer genius.  If people cannot afford to see these places, Mueller’s work literally brings the scenery at their doorstep.  Well, not really doorstep, more like sidewalk, but you get what I mean.

Watch as he transforms this street into waterfalls.  WATERFALLS.  No joke.

A spectacular plaza in Moscow!

I wonder if we’ll ever get around to creating something as artsy as this.  I  guess it would require a lot of people respecting the sidewalk instead of propping up stores and stalls everywhere.  But while we wait for our good ol’ country to get there, let us be enthralled by the mad artistry of Edgar Mueller.  You have to admit, this is pretty brilliant.

I'd love to "fall" into the deep!

And now, it's in Slovenia!

You have to admit his work is pretty extraordinary.  To learn more about Edgar Mueller and his incredible transformation of the most boring pavements created by man (hahahaha I am so dramatic), click here.

I wonder if he can paint the rice terraces in EDSA.  I mean, can you imagine how freaked out the drivers would be?  LOL.

REVIEW: Thor

Dylan and I were supposed to catch Thor on opening day, but apparently, that was what everyone had planned.  We had to push it back a few more days.  However, even if we watched in 5 days after it’s first release, I just have to say, Filipinos are such movie freaks.  I mean really!  The theatre I looked into was sold out at 12 noon!  And I thought I had a good plan.

Good thing, I still managed to get seats for us.  I don’t want the hassle of falling in line, so this is the part where I thank SureSeats! :)

So… moving on…

Dylan had to give me a breakdown of Nors mythology.  Thor is the god of thunder, Loki is the god of mischief, Odin is fantastic papa.  Hahahaha.  Sorry Babe.  Some things didn’t stick.  Don’t worry; I’ll look it up later.

SPOILER ALERT.  SPOILER ALERT.  SPOILER ALERT.

Interesting things in the morning

For those who know me well, they can surely say that I probably have the shortest attention span.  I have to have a place or an activity or website that I can easily go to or visit when I get bored.  I have to thank Pinterest for constantly picking me up on hours that I am down; serves as my virtual pin board actually. :)

I was quite delighted to see these two interesting things when I first logged on to prep for work.

Let’s admit it:  this cardboard castle is just divine!  I absolutely love it.  I was thinking if I collect enough boxes and cardboards, it would make a good rainy day project.  I don’t know if this is a direct reflection of my emotional quotient, but it’s a really nice work of art.  And kids can do it too!  They can make their own castle without having to rely on Disney.  Hahahaha.

This is the best thing ever!  An ink calendar.  Yup, you read that right.  You get to see the dates because the calendar absorbs the ink as each day passes.  How cool is that?!

This is made by an artist named Oscar Diaz.  According to his page,

“Ink Calendar” make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.  The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are “printed” daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.  The ink colors are based on a spectrum, which relate to a “color temperature scale”, each month having a color related to our perception of the whether on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer.  The scale for measuring the “color temperature” that I have used is a standard called ‘D65’ and corresponds roughly to a midday sun in Western / Northern Europe.

The Ink Calendar was exhibited at the London Design Festival in 2007.  I would love to get one of these!

So I guess you can say this is a pretty good morning for me.  How about you?   How is your morning?

Fairy tales and dragons

I don’t think I can ever exclude fairy tales from my future kids’ lives.  I know they completely set the rules for girls to live by.  They created Prince Charming, evil stepmothers, cruel stepsisters, epically perfect horses, theme songs and well, ball gowns.

I knew it wasn't always just me!

So I guess there are just some stories that would need to wait till they’re far older to determine which would be a good fairy tale and which would make a great story.

My kids will make their own stories. :)

Oh to sleep with dreams so sweet. :)

Reading is love

I honestly don’t know where I inherited my love for reading.  My parents aren’t exactly the book collecting types.  Growing up with very limited means, they simply maximized the public library for their schooling… and nothing else.  They weren’t the type to go there and just pick up Great Expectations and read to pass the time.  So I wonder most of the time why I grew to love reading so much.

I started with Archie comics, of course.  I mean, it’s the classic blonde-brunette battle (dibs to be Betty).  Then I slowly went to Alcott, Dickinson, Shakespeare (I was soooo dumbfounded to have realized The Rape of Lucrece is a poem!), and then the Sweet Valley years.  I’m happy that even though I started with pretty teeny bopper choices, I managed to progress to modern literature and books that give you a good sense of mind fuck, and of course, an occasional Nicholas Sparks here and there.

I was sooo delighted when I logged on to Pinterest for the first time and saw there are a lot of concepts for child libraries and reading nooks.  I am so sure I will have my husband make something like these for our kids.

I completely went crazy for this one. This can easily fit under a staircase! And I absolutely love the odd shape. This makes me want my own house already!
A sweet escape, isn’t it? :)
Nothing beats sunlight for reading light. Since we’re in a tropical country, maybe a sarong would be better in place of a quilt.
Exhibit your kids’ books. Not only are they colorful, but it’s also a good tracking method of how your kid’s reading progresses. Of course, if it no longer fancies your kid, don’t throw it out. DONATE. :)
Now isn’t this smart!? You don’t have to worry how to reach for your books since the stairs are there! :)

I guess this is what I missed about being a bum.  When I was a bum, I never really had to catch up on my reading since I am always up to date.  Hahahahaha!  Have a great day everyone. :)

By the way, this is post 454. :)
