Ten minutes never felt so long

I was supposed to do yoga yesterday, but the torturing heat here in Manila made it close to impossible.  Have you seen the temperatures lately?  It feels like we’re in an oven.

In the middle of setting up for yoga, I felt irritated and annoyed and it was very impossible to try to calm the mind and do my rounds.  So I went for the next best thing:  circuit training.

Actually, it’s the best exercise.  High intensity interval training guarantees maximum output at the least amount of time, provided of course that you execute it well.  Circuit training also makes sure that you burn after a workout.

Usually my source here is Back on Pointe but I needed some visuals.  So I headed over to Popsugar Fitness and found this:

I did this entire circuit twice and I swear my thighs and buns were burning.  I thought I couldn’t finish!  You just have to power through.  Don’t forget to end it with some yoga!

I wish you well on your health and fitness journey.  Do you have a favorite circuit?  Share it with me in the comments.  I would love to hear all about it. :)

Why exercise?

I have committed a good portion of my day trying to get fit again.  My day is often consumed by commuting, so I make sure I do yoga at least three times a week.  If you follow me on Instagram, you will notice that I have greens every single day.  And I mean it.  Dining out means a salad and some lean protein.  If it’s Japanese, it’s sashimi.  There are so many required changes in my habits; I didn’t realize how bad I’m eating and non-moving until I had to make so many changes.

It is not easy.  I guarantee you that.  But I will get a tape measure, hop on scale every end of the month and start measuring my progress.

After all, there are so many reasons to do this:

Are you with me on this one?

Greek Salad and Fruit Jar

What’s this?  Actual free time?  Oh my Lord, it must be a miracle!

Celebrating the Day of Valor here in the Philippines last April 9, I found myself avoiding chores and catching up on some of my reading when I remembered buying a buttload of chopped Romaine.  There has to be feta somewhere and aha!  Apetina was there.

Of course I had to forget the pitted black olives and I wonder why.  I usually look forward to that little nugget.  Oh well.

Balsamic vinegar and EVOO check and we’re ready to toss them all up in a glorious Greek-ish salad.

There was so much that I can only pack half of it in my lunch box and the other half, I ate by myself.

Greek Salad

My favorite part in the whole thing is crumbling the cheese.  I have always loved feta’s slightly grainy and then smooth texture.

I was a little overenthusiastic with the vinegar though, and completely forgot about the spices.  Then again, there’s always next time.

Greek Salad
Serves 2

1 bag Dole romaine lettuce, chopped
1 medium cucumber, halved and chopped
50g Apetina feta cheese, crumbled
1 T balsamic vinegar
1 T EVOO
Pepper to taste

Mix everything gleefully!

Next up, dessert.

I honestly believe buying these Mason jars from Pretty Little Cravings is so worth it.  We had some leftover melons and grapes, and a couple of canned fruits to boot.  They made a pretty little picture.

Fruit Jar

I usually store these babies in the freezer to maximize its potential.  Plus of course the fact that it’s summer here already and there’s nothing like consuming something cold.

See those juices at the bottom?  Those were actually from the pineapples and the mandarin oranges.  Even though I drained them well, the juice was still there.  It added a lot to the flavor though, and in a way, sweetened up the melon too.

So far, this healthy eating lifestyle is off to a good start.  Then again (Again!? Hahaha.) I got to make all these because I had the time to.  So while I’m still on break from school, I should really make more of these.

How about you?  Do you have any other quick recipes for me to try?  Let me know!

Falling into a schedule

CAN I JUST GET A QUICK SHOUTOUT?  This school term is finally over!

In that light, Le Beau has been bugging me to come up with a workout schedule while I’m on my five-week break.  I cannot disagree with that; my body has gone through so much that to call it in a fit of disarray and bleh is an understatement.

So here’s what I think.  Running Mondays, Yoga Tuesdays, Biking Saturdays.  Sounds good right?  All the other tasks that I have to accomplish within the week, work-wise and otherwise, I now have time for.  My only concern is, my class schedule for the next term is Tuesdays and Thursdays, so yoga has to fit elsewhere.

Are you following me on Pinterest yet?  Hahaha.  Not that I have so many interesting posts there, but I just created a new board, basically prepping my head for how I would look like when I start working out.  HAHAHAHA.  I know that’s a big joke, but I can’t help it sometimes.  Even though I am so sure I do not have enough money to create a whole new fitness wardrobe, that shouldn’t really stop me from dreaming of having one.

Imagine my joy, though, when I saw these Flyknits:

I’m pretty sure Le Beau is going to argue that I don’t really need new sneakers, especially when I’ve barely used the neon green ones my cousin gave me, but look at it!  It’s so pretty.

Enough gushing now.  It’s quite a big day today, and someone will not stop nagging until that someone is satisfied.  Before my good mood is ruined, must sign off.

Have a great day. :)
