Coron Day 2

After getting the much needed rest from the hike, we had an early start.  We woke up at about 6 in the morning to prepare for breakfast.  Mon said we would have to go to the market early before island hopping; we might run out of food selections.  He was able to commission this boat to take us to wherever and cook the meal too.

Of course it was just like any other market.  Somehow it has more character.  People were not bumping into each other, the catch was fresh, and if the other vendor doesn’t have what we’re looking for, he led us to the other one that has it.  Like everyone is happy.  All the freakin’ time.

We were told that the seafood here was almost dirt cheap.  We got these  crabs for about Php 180 per kilo.  Come.  On.  FREAKING SCORE.

I don't think I've ever seen crabs this big... and this cheap.

I think I should go to the market more, but I don't think I'll see these vibrant colors in Manila.

We arrived right on time.

Please ignore the girl. She was taking so long to leave and Daniel didn’t want to stay there and have the facade all to himself. A lot of people were waiting for their photo opp at Busuanga’s welcome banner.

You know you’re in for a good vacation when the airport scenery looks like this.

We jetted off to Coron!

I booked us five a flight to Busuanga when Philippine Airlines had this 70% off promo in celebration of their anniversary.  It was March and it was cheap and I chose to jet off with my family — all five of us — for four days!  I know right!

I do not remember the last time we ever went a trip on our own.  So come morning of July 14, after attending the early morning mass, we had Tito Romy bring us to the airport and we loaded all our bags (one for each, attempting to travel light) and prepared for Coron.

*cue music here*

We all forgot to get the DSLR ready, so while waiting for the check in counter to open (because we came in early), Tatay and the brothers started assembling it. Nuninuninu...

ANYONE AT ALL: Make a wild guess where this lady came from. Hahahahahahahahahaha.

Tatay assigned himself as the DSLR guy for the entire trip. He will then proceed to keep bugging me about a polarizer that he was not able to advice me to get before the trip. That's my old man right there!

A question and bokeh

I know I have not been writing as much as I should have.  The deadline is just around the corner, and quite frankly, it’s something I cannot ignore anymore.  I have to put in more than what I usually do and do it faster, so I can still have the luxury of having a good enough elbow room to edit, format and unify whatever it is I am required to submit by the end of the month.  Is it exciting?  Somewhat.  Do I feel any pressure right now?  Maybe.

(I just couldn’t help myself.  I had to do a Janina San Miguel question.)

Yesterday, I was browsing through some memos and spotted new information.  According to a new CSC ruling, before any employee can be promoted to an officer grade, he/she must have a Masters degree.  It didn’t state what kind; just have one.  For those who are already officers and still don’t have degrees, they better start getting one then, since they won’t be moving up anytime soon unless that requirement is fulfilled.

I find it quite nonsensical because some people don’t need higher education to perform excellently at their job.  There are tons of successful entrepreneurs who succeeded in their own ventures without even finishing college.  So I don’t understand the reason for this ruling.  Nonetheless, since it’s already there, I would have to comply to it, if I want to move up at all.

Looking at my record, I don’t think an MBA would suit a Journalism graduate.  I am now exploring Creative Writing for my Masters and although it is far from what I am doing now, I don’t think I’d want to take up anything else.  I’m still eager to do my photography classes; maybe when I’ve passed my deadlines, I’ll be more comfortable making plans for a longer period of time.

The only good thing about that CSC ruling?  It forced me to study again.  And I think that’s a good thing.

(Insert nerd theme here.)

How about you?  What do you plan to do to further your education?  Are there any plans at all?  Will you do the same thing to be up for promotion?  Share your thoughts.

Question of the day. And some bokeh for our viewing pleasure. (I wonder if I can pull this off.)

Photo challenge will resume soon!  I promise.  There are very few things that I get to complete in my life — this just has to be one them.

Day 13: Yourself with 13 things

It was a really busy day in the office and in my head, there is no way I will be able to pull off this day’s challenge.  But then I noticed I have so many shit on my desk, it’s impossible for me to not pass this challenge!

When I first started working here, I noticed that there is no way I can put a corkboard.  Everything was cubed and all we had to hold up our most important notes and reminders were magnets.  So, in short, I went on a magnet craze.  I think it was a good month too.  Each time I had free time, I’d drag Anj or Ranna to the nearest National Bookstore and buy magnets.  Anj eventually grew tired of it that when I start to check out magnets, she’ll scream my name.  Like really.  Like a mom saying put that down.  Hahahaha.

So there.  My thirteen magnets.  Actually they’re about 20, but the challenge just asked for 13 so…
