Malling with my Nanay

Those who know me well know I gravitate towards anything with a discount.  And I got that from my mother.

I wanted to drag her all the way to Megamall, because of their humongous sale.  Even Forever21 is on sale.  Somehow, she developed this trauma being in Megamall so that idea is soon junked.  We went to the adjacent malls in Makati and went for a stroll.

While strolling, I saw the shoes I want to get for Dylan.  I wonder if he’ll like it.  I like it because it looks so clean and posh and sleek.  I don’t want to waste the money, so I better make sure he likes it before getting it.  Hahahaha.

Actually, it wasn’t supposed to be just a stroll.  We were supposed to look for gifts.  I found mine, but she didn’t.  Apparently, the gift she wanted was too expensive.  Then again, I reminded her, maybe everything in Makati is expensive.

So we just fitted pretty pretty hats.

I honestly think my mom loves the mall like a teenager does.  Sometimes, she would complain about walking too much, but last night, she was just thankful for having bought flats.  I think we spent two hours just looking at clothes and debating whether or not we get it.  But eventually, we decided to not buy anything.

Ended up eating at Chowking.

As seen above, my mother is a very serious texter.  Hahahaha.  And she does this thing where she mouths whatever it is that she’s texting, as if checking if it sounds right (when it shouldn’t be a bother, because they’re going to read it, not hear it).  So there.

And that was our date.  Weird huh?  At least we got to fit really pretty hats. :)

Book backlog

I’ve always loved books.  I remember back when I was a kid; I first fell in love with Archie comics.  I’ve always wanted to be Betty because she’s always so considerate and sweet and giving.  But of course, in the end, I ended up being more like Veronica.  Minus the rich part.  Hahaha.

Anyway, I kind of am reminded that I have a book backlog when I got home from work today and saw a pile of books I was supposed to read.  Before MAP started, I joined this community online whose goal is to finish 50 books in a year.  I managed to complete that list, and shared quite a handful of reviews, but because I decided to become more serious in planning for my future (or at least having a plan), I only got to complete 50 books for a year.  BUMMER.

And this is my stinking pile.

Got this about a couple of months ago. I think.

I got this with the other one and the next one. Bought it from the National Bookstore big ol’ sale.

Of course, I had to buy a classic. :)

Bought this when I was with Dylan, just last week.

The only book I managed to start reading

At some point, it did become depressing.  I really love reading.  I actually see JK Rowling as a heroine because she made kids fall in love with reading again.  I am so thankful for books because they fueled my imagination.  And I would hate to neglect my first teachers, but I already am.

Contrary to the saying, I really do judge a book by its cover.  I want the cover to age with me:  gracefully.  I want a cover that will actually look like it’s been touched and felt by time.  A cover that remains uncovered, so that as the book is borrowed and passed on from one reader to another, their hands leave an imprint on the cover.  And the book would know it’s been read.

Most people find that weird, and most people disagree with my “care” (or lack of).  Most people would cover them with plastic and preserve the crispness of the pages.  Not me.  I imagine myself being 60 and my floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall bookshelves filled with books with yellowed pages.  Hmmm.  Perfect.

Blogging to you now, LIVE!

It is quite amusing how I’ve found this nifty little thing to be available here in the office.  I have tons of work to do, but I know I just have to write down a few words before everything gets hectic again.

This month shows a lot of promise, mainly because it is so jampacked.  On Saturday, I’m attending a photoshoot of an event I am yet to secure permission before announcing.  It’s quite personal but because it’s for someone close to my heart, I am excited.  Then on Sunday, my cousin Kuya Marc is arriving from New Jersey.  Whoopdeedoo!  I love him and all, but my family knows very well that I love him best because he’s bringing me my shoes.

For the new followers, I am a shoe whore.  I’m not even afraid of saying it out loud.  Shoe whore.  Mother effin’ shoe whore.  I once spent 20,000 on shoes, because they were on sale and they were my favorite local brand.  Yup.  I’m a slut like that.

Then there’s the event that follows the photoshoot.   Hahahaha.  I can’t really contain the excitement because it has been a while since I last hosted something.  I can’t wait to get rid of my discretion.

When it comes to work, every detail counts and I am very happy where I am right now.  I am in a position where I am actually contributing to something with a purpose.  It can be hell sometimes, especially when my boss gets a knack of giving me tough deadlines, but it keeps me on my toes.  For once, I am not sleepy nor groggy after lunch.  So much for the godly hour.

Anyway, I hope your month is as packed as mine.  Started this month right by watching Legend of the Guardians last night.  IT.  WAS.  AWESOME.  But more of that later.

For now, I give you my love. :)

I FFFFound Love.

I’ve always known I’ll always be in love.  I guess that’s the reason why I love seeing love.  And collecting them.  And making them appear mine.  Even if I already have my own.  :)

I have a date with my someone tomorrow evening.  He’s a really good kisser.  :)

Hap Chan, TOSH and Shakey’s

We’ve been trying very hard to be an interesting family again.  And by interesting, I mean rediscover the beauty of dining out.  It was quite fun, convincing my mother to dine out one evening.  To be honest, if there won’t be an event, I highly doubt we’d ever eat out.  That’s the price you pay for having parents that cook like chefs and are satisfied with the usual dishes.

So yeah, I elbowed them to get me my fix of dining out.  First stop was Hap Chan, about a couple of weeks ago. :)

They have pretty good house tea. We had about two refills of this.

Their shark's fin dumpling is soooo good.
