Discovering Shinedown

I am quite grateful for the rekindled wonder for music.  I’ve always known that I won’t like pop music, but lately, I’ve been surrounding myself with anything and everything I can consume.

It’s quite exhilarating really, but I know soon enough I’ll go back to my roots.  For now, I’m enjoying the scouring for new things that I haven’t listened to — for a while or ever — and that’s how I chanced upon Shinedown.

Actually, I’ve been obsessed with Ed Sheeran lately, but more on that later.

I saw this Warner Studio series on YouTube recently and this tattooed vocalist immediately caught my attention.  They remind me of Creed and Staind; I’m this close to calling them a hybrid of both.

But hey, I am yet to look into their body of work first before I say anything further.

Anyway, this is the song that made me extra curious about them.

Do you have any suggested Shinedown performances that I should listen to?  Comment away!

Good morning, Manila

So I haven’t written for quite some time and it’s a surprise because I don’t even seem to miss it.  What I do miss is listening to music.

A very good friend of mine has been my constant supply of cheesy 80s music.  I can’t recall the last time I went to a live show.  Now that I have all this time to do it, maybe I should just go out there and visit these places again.

Route 196, 70s Bistro, Saguijo to name a few.  I should start visiting these places again — and more — just so I can reacquaint myself with the music I’ve easily fallen in love with.

But for now, this cover will do:

Oh the hiatus

It has been quite a roller coaster, the entire year so far.  I have no idea at all where the next 24 hours will take me, and I guess it is that kind of mild (if not wild) ignorance that seem to have vacated my senses when it comes to writing.

I have been, however, quite diligent in Pinterest.  I’ve loaded so much on my pin boards, and well… to exhibit a few:

Hi Tatay,

Did you know that Roger Ebert died today?  It’s one of the saddest news I’ve heard this week.  Well, apart from everyone missing you.

I don’t think I ever talked to you about my fascination for movies and films.  I could go through lengths just explaining the difference, but for you they only mean one thing:  expensive seats.  You’ve always been the television guy.  You like to be in the moment; I on the other hand like to escape.

Anyway, he’s my favorite critic.  He died because his cancer returned.  Just when he announced his leave of presence, he really left the earth.  He was quite graceful in his last words too.

But I bet no one will be as graceful as you.

I was reading through this article when I saw this comment that just made me tear up:

Free at last

I know you’re free.  You feel no more pain.  Your soul has become bigger than your body that it was called by the Master sooner than we all wanted too.

But often I wonder at what point in my life will I ever be at peace with your passing.  I know you are; in your eyes, we’re all good, we’re all right, it’s okay for you to go.  In my heart, I know I have left you out of so much in my life, refused to share it all with you, or give you everything you deserved, that I will just be living with the pain of losing you too early in my life.

I wanted you to walk me down the aisle as I marry the man who loves me the most.  Well, second to you.  No one will ever love me like you do.  They can only try to.

I’m so happy Ted caught your moment when we first saw the majestic Palawan.  I swear you have never looked so breathless in awe.

And I am so thankful to have witnessed your moment of complete freedom and abandon, even just once in my life.

I miss you.  Every day.  I wish to be free from this pain too.  Help me, won’t you?

Ah, tis but a dream

There are things that I will not stop loving…. FRIENDS is one of them.

I have consistently professed my love for this show, mainly because no matter how low or down or pathetic I was feeling, one episode of FRIENDS can easily turn that frown upside down. Smart writing accompanied by memorable characters, FRIENDS for me is still the best comedy television show ever. EVERRRR.

And I was right to love Freshome too! Not only did it give me my favorite bathtub and the chicest small apartment, it also featured the apartment layout of my favorite show.

The dream? To live in the comfort of Monica and Rachel’s apartment. Come on. You have to admit that’s pretty good living!

Joey and Chandler’s isn’t so bad too.

Head here for the 10 floor plans of the most famous apartments in television. You’ll love it as much as I do.

A change is gonna come.  Wait for it. :)
