Reading is love

I honestly don’t know where I inherited my love for reading.  My parents aren’t exactly the book collecting types.  Growing up with very limited means, they simply maximized the public library for their schooling… and nothing else.  They weren’t the type to go there and just pick up Great Expectations and read to pass the time.  So I wonder most of the time why I grew to love reading so much.

I started with Archie comics, of course.  I mean, it’s the classic blonde-brunette battle (dibs to be Betty).  Then I slowly went to Alcott, Dickinson, Shakespeare (I was soooo dumbfounded to have realized The Rape of Lucrece is a poem!), and then the Sweet Valley years.  I’m happy that even though I started with pretty teeny bopper choices, I managed to progress to modern literature and books that give you a good sense of mind fuck, and of course, an occasional Nicholas Sparks here and there.

I was sooo delighted when I logged on to Pinterest for the first time and saw there are a lot of concepts for child libraries and reading nooks.  I am so sure I will have my husband make something like these for our kids.

I completely went crazy for this one. This can easily fit under a staircase! And I absolutely love the odd shape. This makes me want my own house already!
A sweet escape, isn’t it? :)
Nothing beats sunlight for reading light. Since we’re in a tropical country, maybe a sarong would be better in place of a quilt.
Exhibit your kids’ books. Not only are they colorful, but it’s also a good tracking method of how your kid’s reading progresses. Of course, if it no longer fancies your kid, don’t throw it out. DONATE. :)
Now isn’t this smart!? You don’t have to worry how to reach for your books since the stairs are there! :)

I guess this is what I missed about being a bum.  When I was a bum, I never really had to catch up on my reading since I am always up to date.  Hahahahaha!  Have a great day everyone. :)

By the way, this is post 454. :)

Something to look forward to

So when I checked my blog stats, I am about 48 posts away from my 500th post.  It got me thinking.  I want to be able to do something to my readers, because I know you’re a few.  Hahahahaha.  And I guess this is also in hopes of making you all multiply.  In the next few weeks, I’ll post here the things I am giving away via raffle for everyone who will comment/tweet/repost/relink/mention my blog in any (if not all) of their networking sites.

You want a clue to the promo?  Well… let’s just say these are things that I usually get myself. :)  I’m quite excited about it, since I will from this point forward start collating simple stuff to make for a big package for my 500th post. :)

Oh and if you’ll get me a screenshot of my 10,000th view, there’s a prize for that too. :)

Are you ready?  I hope so.  At the rate I’m going, I think I’ll reach my 500th post by mid-May.  Don’t worry; you don’t have to count from this point forward.  I’ll definitely keep you posted.

So there.  :)  YAY for raffle! :)

Recovering from the long weekend

I cannot even begin to explain the difficulty of recovering from a long weekend.  I honestly believe I enjoyed it too much, even though all I did was watch movies.  For those who follow me on Twitter, you can so tell that I was perfectly happy with my self-imposed movie marathon.  After all, the working class don’t always get four-day vacations.  I mean, come on!  The hospitality and healthcare industry don’t even get breaks like these.  So imagine how much power I felt I had.  And I used it all up by watching movies.

I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy it, but I can say this:

It’s something that’s inherent in long vacations.  I even brought home my work laptop in hopes of completing, if not starting, some of my long laundry list of to dos, but yeah, that never really happened.  Somehow, I always end up enjoying too much of my vacation, so when reality strikes, it slaps me in the face like a scorned bitch.

Fell asleep around 9 last night, woke up at 11, fell asleep at 1 in the morning.  And I woke up at 5:30 today.  And I have no choice because Mondays are manic.  If I don’t get up or get ready soon, I am sure to have a hard time commuting to work.

So I’ve come up with three possible options:  (1) move out and live somewhere closer to work, so I wouldn’t have to commute on the day the car is not allowed by the government to be on the road, (2) loan some money and get my own car, that is of course after completing my driving lessons and overcoming my fear of being ran over by a truck and (3) convince the government how healthy and productive it is for employees when they are granted brief but frequent vacations.  Hey, a happy employee is a productive employee.

Just saying. :)  Have a great workweek, everyone.

Drew Barrymore, Ellen Page kiss

There are quite a number of things to show that God is unendingly good.  This, I have to say, is one of them.

I know right!  I completely flipped out when I saw this photo.  All of a sudden, my lesbian urges just kicked in.  Apparently, they have this new movie coming out, Whip It.  It’s about a girl (Page) who doesn’t want to be all girly and instead wants to be a roller girl like this other girl (Barrymore).  Read more of the interview here.

So now that they’re best friends and all, is it safe enough to expect more photos of um, this quality?

I honestly don’t care that they’re doing this for a promo.  These women have to be pretty secure just to do this.

So yeah, do this again.  :)

BARO for Stylista at the BIG BANG BAZAAR

Because it’s Easter, please do join me in celebrating something new.  It is the newest brand of clothing to hit your neighborhood bazaar (and will be up soon online!) designed and stylized by Jackie Dionisio.

After having finished her course at the School of Fashion and the Arts (SoFA), her itching need to create pieces and stylings overtook her.  Soon enough, after hauling what seemed to be yards and yards of fabric and thread all over the metro, BARO for Stylista is born.

Do catch them this coming weekend at the Big Bang Bazaar, coordinated by Ateneo Management Association at the NBC Tent.  Let me know if you’re going so I can snap a photo of you.  Here’s good preview of what you’ll catch at the bazaar.

Don’t forget to ‘Like’ BARO for Stylista on Facebook!

Seeing those dotted pants, I am soooo ready for summer bazaars.   See you there!
