Rainbow after the rain

Everyone has been talking so much crap about yesterday’s hostage-drama at the Quirino Grandstand.  I believe if I share my thoughts on this matter, it would have satiated the minds of the many of you who have read different versions of the story, rumors and fact, and my opinion will be merely just an opinion, not an affirmative action to improve whatever.

But because I have a big mouth, I do have one thought to share (and I have shared this with others already):  I hope someday our government can make this country safe enough for my children to never have to live elsewhere.  There.  I said my piece.

In light of all the drama, we receive good news.  After an 11-year drought, we finally placed again in the Miss Universe Pageant!  Yes I know it’s such a “shallow” thing to celebrate, but the last time we won was Miriam Quiambao in 1999, first runner up and that’s because she fell flat on her face and became so effortlessly graceful.  It’s a no-brainer.

Now that's Filipina beauty.

This year, Venus Raj swept the hearts of many.  In online polls, she would always be part of the favorites.  Hello?  Why the hell not?  This woman literally fought her way to represent the country for such a title.  She showed the world that what the Filipina wants, the Filipina gets (one way or the other — and by the other, I mean something still within the realm of being morally acceptable and just).

Anyway, I thank my good friend Pau Forbes for sharing this link.  These are a bunch of Venus Raj fans watching the pageant via live telecast.

And as someone great and important and had the right words said:  “Mourn the losses, because they are many; but celebrate the victories, because they are few.”

So you see, one person can change your mind about a country.  And it need not be the one with the gun.

It was a shoe day!

It is quite seldom that I get to go with my mom in the mall and actually love waiting on her.  Hahaha.  I believe as we grow older, we become more impatient, even with the people who have relentlessly been patient with us.  So yesterday, we had an early mall day in hopes of getting gifts for the NJ peeps.

I haven’t been there for so long!  I actually don’t remember the last time I’ve been to SM Southmall.  It’s currently undergoing renovations and the center kind of reminds me of 168 in Divisoria. :)  Hahahaha.  But the department store?  It’s slowly taking the shape and form of the one in Makati.  Henry Sy should be proud of his renovating team.  They’re doing a pretty good job.

They call this area the Food Street. New restos with fusion menus. I wonder when I can get to eat here.

I found Allan the Frog! Hahahaha. Awww dear, you know it comes from a really good place. :)

And this is the entrance of the new department store. Bright and shiny, yeah?

And the shoe extravaganza began.

REPOST: Thank you for the cheesecake.

I was looking through my notes on Facebook and I stumbled upon this old thing I wrote about a year ago.  I remember being in a coffee place and feeling all these things, so maybe you can be transported in a coffee place and feel all these things too.  Enjoy.

It’s a Friday night and I am surprised by the lack of people in the city. Usually, the city is alive on Friday nights, with people itching to escape an entire week’s worth of work, an entire week’s worth of arguments and senseless topics over tasteless luncheons and rushed breakfasts. Usually, the city is alive on a Friday night. But not tonight. At least, not tonight.

There are people. They walk around, boys with their big hoodies attempting to appear ghetto and “cool”, girls with their high-pitched voices and emo punk hair do that often make their morena skin look dirtier than it actually is. There are men and women in their business attire, some with a group of high school friends, others sitting intimately with their partners, whispering the day’s aggravations over cold coffee and a shared pastry. Everyone wants to keep their money to themselves nowadays.

Took some time alone

So there was this one day, August 14, when I had nothing to do.  Dylan and I had lunch, but because he had to report to work by 2PM, he left almost immediately after eating.  Instead of retreating to my apartment that is hotter than a brick oven, I decided to stroll around the mall and look at stuff I have no intentions of buying.  Hahahaha.

I actually do have intentions.  What I lack is the means.  At least at that time.

And there were very interesting finds.  Heading over to People R People, I saw the pumps I’ve been eyeing for a couple of weeks now on sale.  Less than 1k, I tried it on and well…

Gotta love a good buckled shoe.

My golden flip-flops look like crap next to these hot things. :)

(Remind me to get a better pedicure)

Scarf it down, why don’t you

One of the pitfalls of living in a tropical country is how you will look stupid by having a scarf wrapped around you.  And don’t tell me that I shouldn’t care what other people think (because I don’t already).  It’s just really hard to keep wearing the scarf when it’s about 90 degrees outside.

So here’s an ode to scarves.  And how I wish I get to be a globetrotting lass just so I can wear them when it’s windy and chilly outside. :)

Now who’s in love? :)
